Bless You

Dima Loginoff is a very talented young Russian designer, just arrived but already being recognized by the biggest names in the game and won several awards already in his young career. Agenda Inc. for instance called Dima 'designer of shockingly beautiful things'. The most blessed example I could find would be the 'Bless You Lamp'. May everything thing you read, write or lighten be blessed!

Community driven artwork

Dutch artists Haas-Hahn (Dutch for Rabbit-Rooster) took on the biggest community driven artwork called the O Morro Project. Goal of the project is to turn one of Rio's worst slumps into a giant work of art. Simply call it Favela Painting. They already started off by painting some gigantic murals. I believe that art can litterally bring colour into your life, even when most colour seems to be faded away and replace it with inspiration. Take a look at the website and see what you can do to support this brilliant project.

A glimpse into the digital future of magazines

Berg and Bonnier R&D presented us the MAG+, which could easily be a glimpse into the (nearby) future of magazines. These clever people developed a prototype tablet which offers a rich media experience but keeps het classical experience of reading paper nearby!

The MAG+ offers you the possibility to scroll through articles, you can just quick scan the headlines and when you see an article you're interested in, you can dive into it and read the full story. Also you can mail a specific article or photo to friends, you can post stuff to a weblog, cut and past as you like! By simply heating up the tablet with a fingertouch all possibilities are open to you.

This is by far the best and most likely digitalizing attempt of paper magazines I've seen so far and I wouldn't be surprised to see it actually arrive in 2010. If I compare it to the for instance the myth of the paperless office, this actually stands a chance. Where the majority of people simply cannot say goodbye to paper, the MAG+ does a very good job of combining the paper experience with digital progress and could please even the most oldfashioned readers with no digital experience what so ever. Big thumbs up from me!

Latest design by BIG architects

BIG and others were responsible for the design of this new educational centre on the Faroe Islands.

It is to be the biggest educational facility ever built on the Faroe Islands and what an amazing building it is! Designed as an vortex, maybe a reference to the Islands' raw and pure natural surroundings, a stormy sea an cold hard wind. Love the design as I do most of BIG's work.

Check the BIG website for more examples or Designboom for the full article.

All eyes on Tom Ford

Tom Ford has made the news a lot recently, but not about a new line of clothing or eyewear. The former Gucci-designer made a (very succefull) moviemaking debut, expressed his hatred of Yves Saint Laurent and announced that he would never again do a fashion show because he got sick and tired of journalists being responsible for the success of a new line. Now that's all very interesting of course, but let's just focus on the one thing why I love Tom Ford. And that thing is great fashion! Slick clothing design a fantastic eyewear! So just a little reminder for everybody and more is available ofcourse on the website.

Multi purpose hunting trophy

A hunting trophy is something you would expect in the library of an English lord, but not in a kindergarten! Yet Jeroen Wesselink proves me wrong here. This Dutch designer shows his fantastic looking stool called My Deer and be honest, even the most animal-caring veganist treelover would want to have this on the wall.. or on the floor! If you don't need it you hang it on the wall, when you've got company, they will be fighting over My Deer. And at the same time, the first item for small talk for once won't be the weather.

Check the Jeroen Wesselink website for more of his designs. And the My Deer can be ordere online for €149,- incl. VAT. Fair price I would say... At least cheaper than buying a gun and ammo, renting a pick-up truck, getting a sixpack of beer and a day off from work!

In need of inspiration?

Just a little something we all need once in a while. Inspiration.
John Cleese with an inspirational speech on how we can let creativity flow. Enjoy!

3D projection on buildings

Dutch company NuFormer Digital Media brings us 3D-projection on static buildings. By making a digital re-creation of the building NuFormer can project 3D imaging on the specific building, making it come to life. Besides art-purposes, advertising is the main market for this unique application. The best thing is that size is not an issue! No matter how big the building is, the projection can be made! I could think of a million ad campaigns or artworks that could be used, or even specific buildings fit for this type of projection. The town would become more lively than ever before and just think of the potential impact! Can't wait for this to become a daily sight!

Check out this amazing movie!

Bernhard Willhelm & Jutta Kraus Expo in Groningen

The Groninger Museum in Groningen, The Netherlands will display a fashion exhibition by Berhard Willhelm & Jutta Kraus. The Designers are supported by Zana Bosnjak, a Berlin scenograph, who is art director of the exhibition.

The expo started on december the 13th and will be open to public till april 11th.

The expo contains a selection of 30 collections men & women and it's truly an 'in your face' expo. Maybe a little graphic at times, but an absolute must see if your into fashion and don't mind the drive to the city of Groningen.

The city of Groningen should be named fashion capitol of the Netherlands for consitantly showing fashion expositions and doing it in a new and fresh way!

Earlier the Groninger Museum showed exposition by Victor & Rolf, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Marc Newson, Anuschka Blommers & Niels Schumm en Hussein Chalayan. I support the Groninger Museum in it's daring expositions, not only in fashion, but in every aspect of design & art, and anyone who might ever be within a 200 mile radius of Groningen should definitely go there! Site of the Groninger Museum here.

Sponge Bob Biker Style

Les Ateliers Ruby, a French helmet producer introduced a special limited edition of it's Pavilion helmet. Les Ateliers Ruby is renowned for their unique and stylish designs but thought bikers could use a little softening i guess. Or maybe Sponge Bob needs to toughen up...

But a great design it is! You're absolutely gonna stand out and it will take guts to wear it, but I applaude the one who does! Check the site for your local dealers and get them while they're hot.

Folding Fan Keyboard

Yoonsang Kim & Eunsung Park have gone a little overboard with this fan folding keyboard. As part of the None Bacteria Project it's main purpuse is said to be cutting down infections through bacteria on your keyboard... Well, that may be the case with this personal, take it everywhere and hook it up to your iPhone, keyboard, but the design got the better of them!

Nevertheless, great job, and where can I order mine?

Cable Drawings

Here's a clever solution for an everlasting decorating hurdle: Cables!

Instead of thinking of ways on how to get rid of all the cables, drilling holes in your flooring and trying to get them in and of course out of there again on the other side of the room, or just taping them together to one big bundle of powerchords..

Maisie Maud Broadhead thought up something we all can try at home. Simply name it 'Cable Drawings' and you are all set!

Ghost of shopping past

Chicago based photographer Brian Ulrich captured the ghost of shopping past on cam. It's an eeri look in America's consumerism past and at the same time a symbol for the last financial crisis in the States and all over the world. But sometimes from desolation something beautiful can grow as Brain Ulrich shows in this collection of abandoned warehouses. The Morning News published the interview and photo's here.

Ulrich describes the scenes he photographed as sometimes Rothko-esque and he is so right there! Never knew a single collection op photo's could tell the story of this modern day fall of an empire so well.

Concept 1 watch design by Virtualideas

Virtualideas, a Swiss based design company owned by Adrian Glessing, presented it's latest design, the Concept 1. A square shaped watchcase (50x45mm) in black and silver with a sapphire crystal glass to finish off the contemporary design. Two dials, one for hours, one for minutes, are seperated and move along a vertical rail. A straight forward, honest design, but going where no watch has gone before! We say it's drop-dead-beautiful and just hope someone will take it in production!

Virtualideas is a design studio with a growing number of topdesigners, serving the full spectrum of design, form conceptual design to mass-production. Market leaders and the best brands are among their clients. For more on Virtualideas, check out the site
